WRD Presents at Illinois Healthy & High Performing Schools Symposium
WRD’s Andi Cooper spoke at the Illinois Health & High-Performing Schools Symposium recently. Organized by Governor Pat Quinn, the US Green Building Council – Illinois Chapter and other partners, the event was an opportunity for schools to exchange ideas on a range of sustainability-minded topics.
Woodridge School District 68, a WRD client that is gradually replacing the asphalt at each of its seven schools with permeable alternatives, was an ideal case study for rethinking traditional design methods and materials. Attendees learned how to:
- Dramatically reduce campus maintenance issues and long-term costs,
- Correct stormwater and icing issues in an ecologically sound manner,
- Maximize the school campus to create outdoor educational amenities, and
- Fund such improvements
Not surprisingly, the cost-reduction and funding aspects especially grabbed people’s attention.
