Mattoon Township Park District Receives Grant for Lytle Park
The Mattoon Township Park District has received a $400,000 matching grant from the Illinois Department of Natural Resources to begin green updates to the district’s popular Lytle Park. WRD, which developed the master plan for the park, applied for the Open Space Land Acquisition and Development (OSLAD) grant on behalf of the park district.
The grant and matching $400,000 in park district funds will support development of three of five sustainability-minded “rooms” planned for the park:
- A New Active Green Environment (NewAGE) area, merging therapeutic recreational offerings with greenscapes,
- A nature-based playground, and
- A community pavilion and music venue, with green features including solar panels
Work will begin this fall, with a targeted spring opening.
