One of the world’s premier academic and research institutions, the University of Chicago has driven new ways of thinking since its founding in 1890. Located in Chicago’s Hyde Park neighborhood, the campus features the Robie House by Frank Lloyd Wright, as well as several works by other famous architects and artists.
Goal
- Analyze the conditions of the roughly 60 gardens and 20 sculptures on campus
- Determine the value of each to assist with campus planning decisions

- Garden and sculpture analysis that has now been incorporated into the university's building-survey database
- Commission to perform enhanced analysis of one of the garden spaces
- Discovery that the acclaimed landscape architect Beatrix Farrand had designed several spaces on campus
- Identification of an oak that predates the campus and is now part of the formal campus survey
